UNMASK
UNMASK
A transformational experience for leaders who have outgrown the identity that created their success.
You've achieved everything you set out to do...
but something always feels like it's missing.
If you could press pause on everything for six months… would you come back to it?
Professionally and personally. things are all ticking along nicely.
But if you’re really honest… didn’t you prefer the earlier days of building it all?
The naivety of not knowing how things would pan out, but pursuing them anyway.
Back then you didn’t know you could do so much… but now you know that you can, it’s less appealing, isn’t it?
Because what more do you actually need?
Nothing really.
But something still feels like it’s missing.
The things you built for freedom now carry a heavy weight of responsibility to maintain.
And somewhere along the line what once felt like choices now feel like obligations with the identities you had to create, the roles you assumed, the “masks” that you wear to get here.
And when you’re known for achieving anything you set your mind to then it seems impossible to let go.
Because who are you without that?
Who are you without the achievements, the accolades, and the things that everyone around you admires?
How many parts of yourself have become non-negotiable because too much now depends on them…
Or rather because you do?
There comes a point where you question what any of it actually means.
And if getting the things you want means you don’t want them anymore… then is there much point in going after anything else?
Do you feel a a sense of dissatisfaction that you can’t admit openly because you should have nothing to complain about?
You’re starting to realise that the thing that has worked so well for you for decades has stopped working.
And if that’s the case then I’d like to present an idea to you…
What if the things that made you successful THEN are the very things stopping you from feeling free NOW?
I’ve spent a lot of time reading about it, writing about it, talking about it, researching it – yeah, OK, obsessing over it – and after many conversations with founders, leaders, and generally capable humans, I’ve come to a rather inconvenient conclusion:
Most people aren’t trapped by a lack of success.
They’re trapped by the identities that helped them create it.
These identities were – and still are – useful.
They help build businesses, careers and relationships… but at some point, the role becomes harder to put down.
And this is where UNMASK begins.
THE SEVEN MASKS
Over the years I’ve noticed the same patterns appearing again and again.
Different people, different lives, different industries… but the same masks.
I’m sure you’ll recognise one immediately, but keep reading and I bet you’ll identify with more.
The Performer
The Performer gains worth through achievement. They're ambitious, driven and capable. They raise the standard for everyone around them.
The Problem?
Success never quite feels like enough because there’s always another mountain to climb.
The Protector
The Protector creates safety through control. They think ahead, manage risk and keep everything running smoothly.
The Problem?
The more responsibility they carry, the harder it becomes to trust others, embrace uncertainty or let go.
The Rebel
The Rebel protects freedom at all costs. They challenge convention, think independently and refuse to blindly follow the crowd.
The Problem?
They can reject support, structure and commitment even when it would help.
The Chameleon
The Chameleon becomes whoever the environment needs them to be. They are adaptable, socially intelligent and brilliant at reading a room.
The Problem?
After a while, they struggle to know what they actually want.
The Rescuer
The Rescuer gains value through being needed. They are generous, supportive and always willing to help.
The Problem?
They end up carrying responsibilities that were never theirs to begin with.
The Expert
The Expert gains confidence through knowledge. They are thoughtful, intelligent and highly competent.
The Problem?
They can become trapped by the pressure to always know the answer.
The Pleaser
They are caring, dependable and deeply considerate.
The Problem?
Everyone else’s needs slowly become more important than their own.
Most people recognise themselves in more than one mask… but one usually sits behind the wheel.
The one you rely on most, which is the one that helped create your success but may now be limiting your freedom.
Which Mask Are You Wearing?
Take the assessment below and discover your dominant mask, the hidden belief driving it, and the cost it may be creating in your life, leadership and relationships.
It takes less than 5 minutes… and you may be surprised by what you find.
THE U.N.M.A.S.K METHOD
A six-stage process for recognising the identities that created your success, understanding the cost of maintaining them, and building a life that no longer depends on them.
Uncover The Mask
Recognise the identity that created your success.
Name The Cost
Understand what maintaining that identity is costing you.
Meet Yourself
Reconnect with who you are beneath the performance.
Act On What Matters
Make decisions based on what matters now, not what used to keep you safe.
Simplify
Remove what no longer belongs.
Keep Yourself
Recreate a life that doesn't require you to abandon yourself again.
Why I Created UNMASK
The truth is, I didn’t create UNMASK because I had all the answers. I created it because I needed them.
For years, I thought I was reinventing myself…
The good girl. The party girl. The bodybuilder. The entrepreneur. The Author. The coach. The speaker.
Each version of me felt different on the surface, but underneath I was chasing many of the same things most of us are: approval, belonging, certainty, significance, freedom.
What I’ve come to realise is that I wasn’t becoming different people. I was wearing different masks. Some helped me survive difficult periods of my life, some helped me build successful businesses, some helped me fit in, others helped me stand out, and all of them served a purpose… until they didn’t.
The more I explored my own patterns, the more I started seeing them everywhere.
In founder, in leaders, in high achievers, in people who looked incredibly successful from the outside yet privately felt trapped by the very things they’d worked so hard to create.
Different lives, different stories, but the same handful of masks.
UNMASK is the culmination of years of personal experience, research, interviews and observation. It’s not a framework designed to help people become somebody new.
It’s a process designed to help them recognise who they’ve become, understand why, and decide what they want to carry forward.
Because the goal isn’t to throw your life away and start again. It’s to stop carrying identities that no longer fit.
Trusted by leaders... but also loved by teams
